July 10, 2000: So, it turns out using the "web" on cell phones just totally sucks. Jakob makes some good points. The key here is that it's a big hardware problem: WAP/WML was designed for browsing on leeetle tiny 4-line screens, so it doesn't have any layout controls, which sounds reasonable on the surface. But, shit, you can't do much of anything on a screen that small (I'm picturing like a 30-screen shopping cart right now). In other words, WAP/WML is an appropriate solution to absolutely the wrong problem.
